RISING theatre star Benjamin Dawson has landed his first role in a West End show.

The 10-year-old will appear in Kinky Boots after impressing with his dancing and singing at the audition.
The talented youngster, from Gosport, went to the audition on the back of being accepted into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, where past pupils include Billie Piper, Denise van Outen and Amy Winehouse.
Benjamin will be joining the London school in September and will live in the capital during the week.
Although he admitted he would miss his parents and friends, Benjamin is looking forward to going.
He said: ‘I am feeling excited. The school looks nice and I am looking forward to learning how to do more types of dance.
‘I only do tap at the moment but at the school, I will learn lots of dances.’
Benjamin said he was excited about appearing as Michael in Kinky Boots – a show about a shoe factory owner who with the help of a drag queen kickstarts the business by making cross-gender footwear.
He said: ‘Being at the school will help with my singing and I had to sing quite a lot for the Kinky Boots audition. I hope to do more shows because I love being on stage.’
Benjamin is also looking to audition for shows including Billy Elliot and Matilda.
His mum Claire said she would miss him but she was proud of him.
‘I am thrilled,’ she said.
‘It is so exciting for him but I am also a little apprehensive because he will only be 11 when he starts.
‘You always expect your children to be living at home when they are that young. But it is too good an opportunity for him to miss. He has to try it and see what he thinks.
‘Already, just being accepted into the school has helped with shows. They can put forward auditions like they did with Kinky Boots so it does help a lot.’
Benjamin, who is part of the Gosport theatre group Stageskool, has already performed at Ferneham Hall in Oliver!, the Mayflower in Priscilla Queen of the Desert and in Annie Get Your Gun at the Bournemouth Pavilion.
In Oliver! he performed with his friend Tristram Redwood, whom he knew when he was a baby and had lost touch with.
Kinky Boots started off as a film about a Northamptonshire shoe factory. It was adapted for Broadway by singer Cyndi Lauper, and Benjamin will be performing alongside Les Miserables star Killian Donnelly.
